Mon parcours

Je suis docteur-ingénieur diplômé de l' École Centrale de Paris et de l' Institut National Polytechnique de Grenoble (INP Grenoble). Outre une spécialisation en hydraulique des ouvrages, j'ai réalisé ma thèse sous la direction de Pierre Evesque (co-supervision de Philippe Coussot) de 1994 à 1997 ; mon sujet a porté sur la rhéologie des écoulements granulaires en cisaillement simple. J'ai été recruté en 1998 comme chargé de recherche (rhéologie) au Cemagref -- devenu Irstea, puis Inrae -- au sein de l'équipe « protection contre les érosions » dirigé par Jean-Pierre Feuvrier, devenu depuis le laboratoire « Erosion Torrentielle, Neige et Avalanches ». En parallèle, j'ai créé avec Claude Charlier une structure de conseil et d'assistance à maîtrise d'ouvrage pour l'ingénierie Toraval (protections contre les avalanches et les crues torrentielles), qui est devenu un des principaux acteurs du domaine en France. Nous y avons développé, entre autres, les premiers modèles numériques d'avalanche et les études de nivologie statistique.



Mon statut actuel

Depuis 2004, je suis professeur de mécanique des fluides à l' Ecole Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne et je dirige le Laboratoire d'Hydraulique Environnementale . Je suis éditeur associé de Water Resources Research, une des revues clés dans les domaines de l'eau, et Journal of Geophysical Research: Earth Surface. Je suis membre de l' American Geophysical Union, et de l'Internation Association of Hydraulic Research. De 2000 à 2013, j'ai été membre du comité éditorial de la revue Neige et avalanches (publiée par l'Association nationale d'étude de la neige et des avalanches). Je suis relecteur principalement pour l'American Physical Society, Journal of Fluid Mechanics, l'American Geophysical Union, et Journal of Rheology.
